How fuel prices are set in Lebanon

A plain explanation of the fuel price table issued by the Ministry of Energy and Water, and why prices change twice a week.

Published on 27 October 20261 min read

Lebanon's Ministry of Energy and Water, through the Directorate General of Oil, issues the fuel price table (جدول تركيب أسعار المحروقات). It sets the maximum retail price of a 20-litre tin of petrol 95, petrol 98 and diesel. The gas cylinder price is set by a similar decision.

Why prices change twice a week

The table is usually issued on Tuesday and Friday. The price follows:

  • global oil prices and import costs
  • the dollar exchange rate
  • fees and taxes
  • distributor and station margins

From 26,500 pounds to over two million

In June 2019 a tin of petrol 95 cost 26,500 LBP. After the financial collapse and the end of subsidies, it reached 1,617,000 LBP in March 2023. In May 2026 it roughly doubled as global oil prices rose.

How Taqtek tracks prices

We collect every official decision since 2010 and follow each new table as it is published. A new price only goes live when more than one source agrees, and we then check it against the official decision.
